The Miramar Water Treatment Plant, San Diego, is the sole provider of drinking water to an estimated 500,000 customers in the northern section of the city. The plant is currently undergoing an upgrade and expansion project that includes a new rapid mix facility, installing new de-aeration basins, disinfection facilities, new chemical facilities, new and refurbished administration facilities, flocculation and sedimentation basins, washwater recovery system and water filters.
Metal roofing by AEP-Span, Dallas, was used for seven buildings of diverse functions.
More than 600,000 square feet (55,740 m2) of 22-guage, 24-inch- (610-mm-) wide Kynar-coated roofing were installed over rigid insulation on each of the buildings.
The swooping curved roofs evoke fluidity and provide an attractive view for residential neighbors. Manuel Oncina Architects, La Jolla, Calif., was the architect for the project and EMS Construction, Vista, Calif., was the roofing contractor.
