Project built with continual high-wind conditions

The Carlota Copper Co., Electrowinning Tankbase in Miami, Ariz., utilized a Rigid Frame metal building from American Buildings Co., Eufaula, Ala. The 29,318-square-foot (2,724-m2) building is 75 by 320 by 34 feet (23 by 98 by 10 m). The complex project had an elevated 4-foot
(1-m) stem wall at the perimeter, and the building was built entirely from the outside due to the 98 pre-installed electrowinning tanks. The primary and secondary steel was shipped black, and the builder applied 20-mil Epoxy Carboline finish prior to assembly. The building was installed with an 11-ton (9.9 metric ton) crane/rail running the length of the building. Carlota Copper Co. was built on a hilltop within a copper mine with continual high-wind conditions. Completed in April 2008, M3 Engineering, Tucson, Ariz., was the architect; Merit Consultants International Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was the general contractor; and Picacho Development, Apache Junction, Ariz., was the builder.
