Trendy headquarters is fresh and energetic

Metal fabric from Cambridge Architectural, Cambridge, Md., provides a clean, chic backdrop for the reception desks inside the trendy headquarters for
Red Bull North America, Santa Monica, Calif.

The 105,000-square-foot (9,755-m2 ) building was completely renovated by Red Bull to reflect its contemporary and sporty product. The centerpiece is a 250-foot- (76-m-) long skateboard platform that undulates inside the building, dividing space among surrounding offices and conference rooms. The building also includes a recording studio, movie theater and Olympic-sized gym, all making the headquarters a fresh and energetic space representative of the company’s image.

The project features Cambridge’s Landscape Interiors woven metal fabric system to add to the urban edge of the structure. The mesh hangs in tension behind the reception desks near the building’s main entrance, complementing the overall interior design. The mesh provides a unique and refreshing solution for the reception desk backdrop, counteracting the simple desk design by infusing an alluring pattern and texture behind them, resulting in an engaging and unexpected motif.

“Architectural mesh is very unique, and I thought that Cambridge’s material brought a great design aesthetic to the space,” said Keith Beckett, project manager with the subcontractor, Seeley Brothers, Brea, Calif. “It really complemented the high-end style of the reception desk to provide an innovative and eye-catching backdrop.”

For Red Bull, the metal fabric facilitates the planning of building space and activities. At the headquarters, employees have enough room to ride bicycles along the structure’s expansive interior.

Cambridge assisted and consulted with the Red Bull team from initial design to final installation, allowing Cambridge to develop a solution for creating physical boundaries within the interior space. The LandscapeInteriors system was fabricated in Cambridge’s Balance pattern and was installed with Cambridge’s Eclipse tension attachment.

Higgins Common Trust, Irvine, Calif., is the owner; HLW International, Los Angeles, was the architect; and Inner Space Constructors, Rancho Dominguez, Calif., was the contractor and installer.
