Office & Mixed-Use

UPPAbaby, Rockland, Mass.

In its industrial exterior and open-concept interior design for UPPAbaby’s headquarters, Bergmeyer Associates Inc. specified a combination of metal panels, curtainwall and other materials.

Metl-Span’s horizontal and vertical insulated metal panels (IMPs) frame a curtainwall at the front entrance of the building and wrap around the exterior. Stan Kubinski, senior associate at Bergmeyer Associates, says, “The Metl-Span IMPs were introduced on the front façade as an impact and accent panel.”

Controlled Environmental Structures LLC installed 2,907 square feet of Metl-Span’s 3-inch-thick, 22/26-gauge CF Architectural Wall Panels in Polar White for the project. It also installed 933 square feet of 3-inch-thick, 22/26-gauge CF Architectural Wall Panels in Slate Gray. The IMPs have an R-value of R-25. Allstate Glass installed the curtainwall, supplied by Kawneer Co. Inc.

The majority of the baby stroller retailer’s 45,000-square-foot building houses office space. There is also a 15,000-square-foot warehouse and maintenance workshop, and retail space in the front.

Inside the building, Bergmeyer Associates’ open office concept is organized with glass dividers, without office doors and cubicles, and modern amenities. The office space features modern art, exposed structural steel and a variety of architectural finishes including wood slats and a decorative ceiling. Additionally, the mixed-use facility has a fitness complex, and, on the second floor, an exterior deck and barbeque center. The building took about a year to build and was completed in November 2017.

“Our building was designed to expose the structure on the interior and to really capture the spirit of the brand,” Kubinski says. “[The combination of materials] achieves our intended look of an industrial warehouse aesthetic, with a cool, funky vibe on the interior.”
