Kingspan Insulated Panels continues its innovation in environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. As part of its commitment to environment and sustainability, Kingspan signed on early as a supporter of Health Product Declarations (HPD) and was a BETA participant. At Greenbuild 2013 they are announcing the first step in their HPD reporting.
Kingspan is committed to responsible chemistry and continues to work with its supply chain to support continuous improvement of the building industry’s environmental and health performance. Due to the complexities in HPD reporting, Kingspan chose to work with a third party to collect, review and submit this initial HPD report. Kingspan’s decision to work with a third party demonstrates its commitment to enable project teams to make informed health-minded product decisions as part of a comprehensive product review, including functional performance, compliance, and the many other aspects of material evaluation and specification.
Additionally at Greenbuild 2013, Kingspan Insulated Panels-North America is announcing approval and certification of their updated EPD-Environmental Product Declaration per ISO 14025, based on 2012 data input. This is the third updated EPD and is compliant with new MCA (Metal Construction Association) Product Category Rules for preparing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Product Group: Insulated Metal Panels and Metal Composite Panels and Metal Cladding-version October 9, 2012.
Kingspan’s Product Specific EPD will contribute as one of 20 products required for NC-v4 MRc2: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization-Environmental Product Declarations, Product-specific Declaration.
Option 1. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) (1 point) Product-specific Declaration.
Environmental Product Declarations which conform to ISO 14025, 14040, 14044, and EN 15804 or ISO 21930 and have at least a cradle to gate scope. Product-specific Type III EPD — Products with third-party certification (Type III), including external verification in which the manufacturer is explicitly recognized as the participant by the program operator are valued as one whole product for purposes of credit achievement calculation.
Since the release of their 2010 EPD, Kingspan has achieved a 19% overall energy use reduction as part of the US Department of Energy/Energy Efficiency Renewable Energy Better Plants program and Kingspan’s global commitment to obtain net-zero energy for all operations by 2020.
