REOSE LLC, the international sustainable arm of New Orleans-based energy-efficient building-materials companies Oceansafe and The ReGen Group, announced that Architect Judith Kinnard and Project Designer Tiffany Lin have won the REOSE Sustainable Building Design Competition. The firm beat strong competition from seven other leading New Orleans-based architecture and design firms to receive the award. All participating firms provided exceptional and creative designs ranging from single-story stand alone homes to innovative two-story connected units. The winning design’s wall panels are constructed of Oceansafe’s SSIP System (Steel Structural Insulated Panel). The SSIP System was used in the REOSE Sustainable Design Competition building kits. The galvalume panels are combined with polystyrene cores (EPS), and assembled with a patented snap-together system. These panels are used for external, load-bearing walls, as well as the roof system to create an entire building envelope that is impervious to the destructive forces of nature. The panels are a cost-efficient, durable, green solution for homeowners, builders and developers. The competition challenged the eight New Orleans-based architecture firms to use their creativity, ingenuity and the materials provided to them to create a sustainable, energy-independent housing design capable of withstanding the world’s most severe environmental conditions. The winning design will be constructed in New Orleans and open for public viewing in August 2010.
