AGC introduces new glass family

AGC Glass Co. North America, Alpharetta, Ga., has introduced Krystal Klear glass, a revolutionary new ultra-clear glass family that is the most transparent glass product available on the market. With its outstanding visible light transmission rating, tremendous strength and excellent durability, the glass is ideal for a wide range of commercial, residential and specialty glass applications. “Because it incorporates an innovative manufacturing process, this low-iron glass delivers the strength and design flexibility of a heavy glass while eliminating the greenish tint that is traditionally found on the edges of glasses with high iron contents,” says John Rarick, AGC Glass Company North America’s Marketing Manager, Building Products Group. “Its virtually colorless appearance enables Krystal Klear glass to produce clearer clears, truer colors and faultless patterns without dulling or distorting the color spectrum. The product’s broad versatility also makes it an excellent option for all types of architectural styles.” Krystal Klear glass offers an outstanding visible light transmission level of 91 percent and a high shading coefficient. It is intended primarily for use in interior application, including partitions, railings, furniture, appliances, framing, shelving, shower doors and specialty items, but can also be used as a solar glass. In applications where personal safety or security is a concern, Krystal Klear glass can be laminated easily to provide strength – without sacrificing light transmission. Easy to fabricate and process, the glass can also be tempered, bent, silk screened and insulated to meet many specific performance requirements. Another product in the family, Krystal Patterns™, features a choice of 12 faultless patterns embedded in Krystal Klear glass to provide a wide variety of design possibilities. Offering the highest light transmission of any rolled glass product, the patterns are ideal for shower doors, tub enclosures, interior partitions, translucent door and window treatments, foyers, vestibules, patio furniture, shelving, decorative furniture and lighting fixtures, as well as solar and industrial lighting applications. Krystal Patterns are available in a wide variety of thicknesses and sizes. Finally, Krystal Kolours™ incorporate Krystal Klear glass coated with a high-quality, environmentally friendly paint and a layer of varnish to create bright, opaque colors. Ideal for wardrobe doors and furniture, sliding doors, tables, shelving, display cases and writing boards, Krystal Kolours are available in 25 standard colors, as well as customized colors for large orders. The product can be ordered with a polypropylene film on the painted side of the glass that protects the layer of paint on the glass from scratches.
