The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) published “KIPP Texas Somos Campus,” an addition to its architectural significance in metal buildings series. This 24-page folio adds to MBMA’s library of downloadable resources for architectural students and their professors. It explores the design and construction of the three metal buildings that make up the KIPP charter school campus in San Antonio, Texas. The folio, along with all the MBMA student resources, is available at MBMA’s website.

“The 11th release in this series showcases another example of the incredible possibilities of metal building systems,” says Tony Bouquot, MBMA general manager. “By looking at the design goals, priorities and outcomes for each facility, we’ve created a valuable tool for educators and their students.”

MBMA created the KIPP Somos TX folio in coordination with Gensler, Linbeck Group LLC, and KIPP Texas Public Schools, based in Houston. It includes:

  • Exclusive interviews with architect Robert Bradford of Gensler, based in San Francisco, Linbeck Group, based in Houston, and others involved in the campus’ completion.
  • Project design insights for the three metal buildings that make up the campus: a college preparatory school, gymnasium, and elementary school.
  • Objectives and goals for the project, including cost effectiveness, speed of construction, durability and resilience, and flexibility, are hallmarks of metal building systems.
