Editor’s Corner: 70% and counting – Kingspan’s sustainability journey

“We are a for-profit company” … It’s not something you would expect to hear during a conversation about sustainability, but Brent Trenga, director of sustainability at Kingspan Insulated Panels North America, makes a compelling case for why sustainability and profitability need to go hand in hand.

In this episode of Editor’s Corner, Anthony Capkun of Metal Architecture speaks with Brent about Kingspan’s sustainability journey, using the company’s 2025 Planet Passionate report as a starting point.

The numbers are impressive. Kingspan has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 70%, achieving its 2030 target five years early. The company also used more than 1 million tonnes of recycled and renewable materials in 2025.

Brent discusses why sustainability has become embedded in Kingspan’s business strategy, with Planet Passionate commitments appearing near the top of the company’s investor presentations.

The conversation ranges from committed leadership and tackling hot spots to recognizing supply chain limitations—and putting “No Regrettable Substitutions” on a T-shirt.

Hosted by editor-in-chief Anthony Capkun, Editor’s Corner is where curiosity meets construction. Each episode explores ideas, technologies, challenges, and questions shaping the built environment through conversations with the people behind them.
