Wilton Library and Community Center, Wilton, Iowa

Wilton Library and Community Center in
Wilton, Iowa, is a 23,046-square-foot mixed-use facility split almost equally between library and community center. Architect Greg Larrison of Larrison & Associates Architects, Davenport, Iowa, specified a pre-engineered metal building because of a tight budget and because construction could be done during challenging winter conditions, allowing the project to be completed on time. Davenport-based Point Builders LLC, an authorized Varco Pruden Builder, used Rigid Frame from Memphis, Tenn.-based Varco Pruden Buildings as the primary framing system for the project. Additionally, the roof featured Varco Pruden’s SSR and SLR roof systems. To meet USGBC requirements for cool roof performance, Varco Pruden’s Cool Regal White paint finish was selected.

The library is home to approximately 25,000 books and 12 public-use computers, as well as being a facility for events such as wedding receptions, proms and graduations. In designing and constructing the facility, the project used daylighting and passive solar heating to qualify for LEED Silver certification, which is required by Iowa in order to maintain state-supported funding.
