• 15,000 square feet (1,394 m2) of the X-12-E Integrity Series from Morin (Kingspan), Deland, Fla.
Project Fine Points:
• River Crossing Corporate Center is a new two-story office development and the home office for the architectural and engineering firm, M3.
• The new building accommodates the firm’s growth over the past 20 years by bringing together in one location all of M3’s architects and engineers, which had been previously housed in separate leased buildings.
• The building consists primarily of open studio space, with only 10 percent of the net building area utilized for reception, conference rooms and individual offices.
• The arrangement of the open studio space, with multiple shared interaction spaces, provides for collaborative design exchanges between the architects and various engineering disciplines.
Why Metal?
• Beyond bringing together all of the M3 staff into one location, one of the primary goals for River Crossing Corporate Center was to express, through the architecture of the new building, the nature of the work the firm does, and to be reflective of its client base.
• The aesthetic of ribbed metal cladding best fit this expression as a textural complement to the exposed braced-framed steel building.
• Additionally, a significant portion of M3’s clientele is in the aviation, astronomical and industrial sectors, where metal cladding is nearly compulsory.
• From an architectural perspective, metal panels were used to bluntly express the inherent nature of skinning a steel frame building as an exercise in facade application, emphasized in the building by the overlapping layer of metal panels in front of the glass curtainwall.
