EarthCraft-certified development helps revitalize community

Part of the revitalization of north Nashville, Tenn., Morgan Park Place is a 72-unit eco-friendly community that features residences and retail space for people looking to minimize their environmental impact. Designed by DA|AD Group, Nashville, the community is the first EarthCraft-certified development in Tennessee.

Located on 2 acres (0.8 hectares), the community is made up of five buildings with office and retail space, providing easy access to downtown Nashville, historic Germantown restaurants and local parks. Units are townhouses, flats, single-family houses and carriage houses. Interior sustainable materials include bamboo flooring, Energy Star-rated appliances, on-demand water heaters, recycled rubber pavers for the rooftop deck, and high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment.

Metal roofing and wall panels were chosen for their recyclability and long lifespan. Petersen Aluminum Corp., Elk Grove Village, Ill., supplied 20,000 square feet (1,858 m2) of 24-gauge flushseam wall panels in Slate Grey, Colonial Red, Hunter Green and Dark Bronze. Four bungalows showcase the choices of panel color, while the other exteriors feature a blend of brick and Dark Bronze wall panels.

Lawrence Bros. LLC, Nashville, and New Urban Construction LLC, Nashville, were the general contractors; R.D. Herbert & Sons, Nashville, was the installer; and Triangle Fastener Corp., Pittsburgh, was the distributor.

The architects won the Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award in the Building Green Category in 2007.
