Metal Panels Make Difference in Headquarters Expansion

A 2,000-square-foot (186-m2) addition to the Siskin Steel & Supply building in Chattanooga, Tenn., has had a huge impact on the appearance of the company’s headquarters. Linked to an existing brick structure, the expansion includes a new lobby, administrative offices and training room. Approximately 1,250 square feet (116 m2) of 18-gauge stainless-steel wall panels by Dri- Design, Holland, Mich., were utilized to create the transformation. Dri-Design’s patented Wall Panel System is a dry joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen system.

“We were looking for a way to beautify the old building in a manner that would also express the nature of Siskin’s business,” said Bob Franklin, architect and president of Franklin & Associates, Chattanooga. “That led us to the design using an exposed steel structure and stainless-steel panels.”

According to Franklin, the panels were rotated 45 degrees for added impact and to express the entrance. He also cited long-term durability and cost effectiveness as key reasons for selecting the Dri-Design system. GenTech Construction Co., Chattanooga, was the general contractor and panel installer for the project.
