Metal Roofing Products Lead the Way

After the design and layout of a project have been hammered out, it’s the products used that define a building. Today, using high-performance building products are essential to both the life span of a building and how much energy it consumes.

Each year, we take a look back at the products that have sparked the most interest of our readers over the previous year. The winning products of our annual Readers’ Choice Award are chosen by ranking our reader’s interest in products that were mentioned throughout the magazine’s editorial last year. That interest is measured based on the leads generated from both the response to circle numbers in the magazine and the MetalConnect emails that provide further information to our readers about these products.

It’s always interesting to go back over the last few years selections to see if, and how, interest in specific products have changed. Over the last several years, roofing products have dominated the Readers’ Choice Awards, and that doesn’t change this year.

Going back to 2018, the top products categories were metal roofing and insulation, with metal shingles and tiles leading the way on the roofing side, as the products readers wanted to learn more about. The third top category that year was roofing underlayments, creating the roofing trifecta. In 2019, roofing materials and accessories continued to capture reader’s interest, with metal roof materials, underlayments, clamps or solar arrays leading the way. By 2020, metal roofing products remained the top interest for readers, with metal shingles, metal roofing accessories and solar panels making up more than half of that year’s top products. And last year, it was metal shingles and tiles that dominated the top product selections.

Year after year, metal roofing related products have dominated the Readers’ Choice Awards. This year, of the 24 products selected, 13 are specific to the roof, with most of the interest remaining in metal roofing materials.
