This past year has brought about a lot of changes, many of which no one saw coming. And while some things will return to the way things were before COVID-19 changed all of our lives, there are many things that will never go back to being the same. One area that will continue to see a ripple effect from the Coronavirus is the architecture industry. The way we design spaces may never be the same. There are things that architects and designers need to think about differently in every project they take on. While some of these things—air filtration and occupant wellness—had started to be more important prior to the pandemic, the actual design and layout of spaces may be forever changed. How do schools and offices adapt to needing to keep people 6 feet apart? Is there still hope for live shows and sports in stadiums in a post-pandemic world? How are residences changing now that people are working at home more than ever? These are just some of the questions we take a look at in this month’s Bonus Feature, “Post-Pandemic Design.”
Also in this issue, we take a look at the top 25 products from last year, as identified by our readers. Interest in existing products was dominated by the metal shingle and tile category. While energy-related products have been top of mind in the past, this year’s pandemic-era led readers to request more information on many of the products that have been around for many years. Check out the full range of products making the cut in this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards.
